On September 9, 2017 the Opera performs at the 10th annual outdoor concert, Brucemorchestra X, this year presented by Orchestra Iowa in partnership with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre. The Opera is excited to return as part of the Brucemorchestra experience since its appearance at the first Brucemorchestra event a decade ago.

The program features popular opera arias and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with choirs from Coe College, Mount Mercy University, Kirkwood Community College, and Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale.

Featured guest soloists include mezzo-soprano Janara Kellerman, tenor Ta’u Pupu’a, and bass Daniel Sumegi. Mr. Pupu’a will perform "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini’s TURANDOT, a preview of his performance in the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre January 2018 production.

TURANDOT by Puccini
January 19 & 21, 2018 The Paramount Theatre
A love story on the grandest scale.
Puccini’s final opera is set in the fantastical realm of Legendary China. The cold-hearted Princess Turandot has many suitors but they must solve three riddles correctly to win her hand - and failure leads to death. Finally, a handsome prince solves the questions but Turandot is still reluctant to marry him. The prince himself gives a challenge to Turandot – if she cannot learn his name by morning, they must be married, but if she discovers it, he will face his mortal end.

In this lavish opera, audiences will experience live one of the best known operatic tenor arias, “Nessun dorma”, performed by tenor Ta'u Pupu'a (Prince Calaf).
