"The Art of Chocolate", Saturday 3/31
Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre presents The Art of Chocolate, Saturday March 31, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids. A delightful evening of music,two one-act operas, chocolate & champagne, with featured presentation by noted host Lynne Rossetto Kasper of public radio’s The Splendid Table, produced by American Public Media. Lynne Rossetto Kasper has won numerous awards as host of The Splendid Table, including two James Beard Foundation Awards(1998, 2008) for Best National Radio Show on Food, four Clarion Awards (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) from Women in Communication and a Gracie Allen Award in 2000 for Best Syndicated Talk Show. Lynne is a respected authority on food, having published three bestselling books: The Splendid Table, The Italian Country Table, and The Splendid Table’s How to Eat Supper, which was co-authored with producer Sally Swift in 2008. The Splendid Table, produced by American Public Media, can be heard on nearly 300 public radio stations nationwide.
Bon Appetit by Lee Hoiby will feature mezzo soprano and Cedar Rapids native, Karen Brunsson, in the comedic role of Julia Child baking a chocolate gateau. She will be accompanied by pianist Marita Wolgast. Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre Young Artists, Channing Connell, Brian Kuhl, and Andrew Wannigman are the featured singers in Face on the Bar Room Floor by Henry Mollicone. They will be accompanied by Tony Nickle.
Patrons of The Art of Chocolate will have the opportunity to enjoy both operas and the presentation by Ms. Kasper who will offer a book signing during the chocolate and champagne reception at the end of the evening. Ms. Kasper’s books are generously provided by Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City.
